Hilly
A spectacular first stage of the Spanish section of the Portuguese Coastal Way. Starting from A Guarda, at the mouth of the Miño river, with views of Monte Santa Tegra and its Celtic hillfort. The path climbs and descends along coastal cliffs with breathtaking Atlantic views. You pass through Oia, with its 12th-century Cistercian monastery right on the beach. Baiona is a historic seafaring town where the caravel Pinta arrived with news of the discovery of America. Its Monterreal fortress, now a parador hotel, overlooks the bay.
